We congratulate the syiyaya Reconciliation Movement for being a recipient of the 2025 British Columbia Reconciliation Award, a provincial honour recognizing leadership and commitment to advancing reconciliation across B.C.

The syiyaya Reconciliation Movement said in a statement to the community that it is sharing the news “with deep gratitude,” noting that the award acknowledges “individuals, groups, and organizations who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, integrity, respect, and commitment to furthering reconciliation, and who have inspired others to continue this work.”

The organization emphasized that the award “reflects the importance of putting truth before reconciliation,” and recognizes how work “grounded in honesty and care, can strengthen relationships between Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities.”

Founded by Hereditary Chief ?akista xaxanak Garry Feschuk, shíshálh Elders, non‑Indigenous allies, and in collaboration with the shíshálh Nation, the syiyaya Reconciliation Movement's work has always been rooted in “shared leadership, fostering dialogue, education, and relationship-building rooted in respect, accountability, and care.”

The movement supports Survivors of the Indian Residential School system by creating spaces for storytelling through gatherings, films, workshops and dialogue circles.
